Mage, Cards and the Weekend

Fortunately for anyone who cares, this isn't going to be a one post blog, there will be at least two posts. I wonder how many blogs in the world have one post and then sit on the web forever, not interesting many people.

When I finally get the internet sorted at home I will endeavour to post at least once a week, making realistic targets is important and I am not sure I have the energy to share my thoughts and experiences more than weekly. Though I might.

Last week saw the start of my Mage game, which for those of you who don't know is a role playing game. It is rather pretentiously called Forgiven Sins and is set in a dark future London where society is polarized into "Beacons" and "The Darkness." The action is currently focussed near to the Islington Beacon.

Khyros has recently purchased St. Thomas More's, a gothic church, with the financial backing of Kitty Jay, a business woman of notable success. St. Thomas' houses a remarkable stained glass window that shows some of the areas pagan heritage. Astoundingly beautiful, but unusual for a church. It marks an important place for the awakened, a hallow in which the connection to the Supernal is incredibly strong.

During meetings with various contacts and associates the cabal heard tell of the unscrupulous activities linked by a name, Francis Christian. Who as yet remains no more than a name to them. Additionally, it was mentioned that a pet shop has opened near to the "Half Moon" pub, it does not appear to quite fit into its surroundings. Unfortunate and disturbing incidents seem to be increasing in frequency around Islington.

Night fell on their first night at St. Thomas' and an as yet unnoticed occupant of the church made himself known. Christopher Jefferson was the given name of a ghost or spirit which occupies the church. We know little of its past, but none the less the spirit claims ownership of the church. The cabal may stay, unharmed this evening, but are warned that they are not wanted.

Last week also saw my weakness to Jyhad cards be overcome for the first time in months. I bought some 3rd Edition cards. Excitingly, I created my first Tzimisce deck. It is everything it should be, with more blocking than you can shake a blocking spoon at. In addition it has Smiling Jack and some War Ghouls. I am looking forward to trying it out!

The weekend was OK. I went to London. We didn't do much in the way of anything. Chinese food was tasty as always, the X Factor should probably have taken up less of my Saturday night, that said, how are the MacDonald Brothers still in the competition? I was forced to watch Kate and Leopold. It has perhaps the most linear, predictable plot possible. It also has Meg Ryan playing Meg Ryan. Hugh Jackman is cool, but not nearly cool enough to carry this film.

Arsenal win against Liverpool in a match that I was afraid to watch. Fantastic. Sunday evening, after a shitty day was good fun. We watched the NFL in the Sports Cafe on Haymarket. Chargers win an explosive shootout with the Bengals.

Monday has been pretty good. The train journey into work was as good as a train journey can be. It left me pretty sleepy. I met my supervisor and talked about how tunnelling can (or cannot) be visualised. I also produced a plan of what needs doing over the next few days. I really need to back up my hard disc.
